Monthly Budgets
What’s In Your Piggy Bank?
Will you keep, limit or cut any of your monthly expenses?
You need to be transparent about your monthly expenses when you and your spouse live apart — or even if you decide to remain under the same roof.
If you do not already have a full accounting of your expenses, then you must start now. Include all fixed and variable expenses. While the fixed may be obvious, such as mortgage or rent, utilities and car payments, the variables may slip your mind and have never made it to your accounting records, such as manicures, haircuts or car washes. Make certain that your budget records are complete and accurate.
Excel Workbook (optional)
For your convenience, you can download the Excel Workbook below. It should be helpful in listing your typical expenses and leaves room for you to add your own. (Please note: You need to have the Excel software to use the file.)
The workbook includes four sections:
Monthly Expenses - Living Apart
Monthly Expenses - Living Together
Balance Sheet of Marital Assets & Liabilities
Tangible Personal Property List
Smart Tip: Hold on to this document. You can also use it when you address the Division of Assets phase of your divorce mediation.
